In addition to writing her own books Jean also works as a folklorist and editor. Since 2023 she has edited the Macmillan Collector's Library Myths and Legend series alongside the team at Pan Macmillan. These volumes bring together early renditions of myths, legends and fairy tales on various themes from witchcraft to winter folklore. They also feature introductions and commentary from Jean concerning the history behind these stories and their writers.

Jean was also a contributor and editor on Bloomsbury's Revisiting Rape in Antiquity, an academic volume that brings together recent scholarship on sexualised violence in Ancient Greece and Rome.
